Commission a Portrait
Do you work from a photo or in person?
I work from high quality photos. I love being able to work with people from all over the country. Your photos allow me to do that without charging travel fees to schedule a portrait session.
How do I choose a photo?
Select a photo that you love and that captures the person’s personality. Professional photos are preferred, as they show a greater range of color. Grainy, low resolution, black and white, or altered color photos will not work. In addition to the photo selected for your portrait, 2-3 extra reference photos that show the subject’s features in detail are requested.
What are your prices?
A 9x12” portrait of one person starts at $500. Prices increase with size. One half of the payment is required as deposit before I begin the painting. The final payment is due when you receive your painting.
Can you paint both of my children in one painting?
I recommend only one child per painting. This allows room for detail in the face and to bring all the focus to their uniqueness and personality. Painting multiple children in one commission requires a size increase to allow sufficient space for each child.
Can I see a sketch before you begin?
Yes. Once a photo is chosen, I send you a detailed sketch to review.
How long will the portrait take?
It depends on my commission list. Generally, allow for two weeks from the time I am able to start the painting. The artist-client contract will specify the exact completion date of your commission, based on my wait list at the time.
I’d like this portrait finished by a special date. Can you rush an order?
Please let me know before I begin the sketch whether you will need the painting finished by a certain time so I can do my best to accommodate that date.
